Summer 2022 Events Update: Sake Dinner, Zen & Politics 3.0, & The Annual Zen Art Sho

Zen & Sake

In October, Chozen-ji will be holding our Sake Dinner fundraiser for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We'll be trying out a new venue this year, the Prince Waikiki Hotel and their 100 Sails restaurant. Featuring a kaiseki meal, sake pairings, Chozen-ji ceramics, and haikus presented by each of the tables of guests, the Sake Dinner is always a great way to familiarize a wider audience with the Dojo and raises a significant portion of annual operating costs.

November 4-6: Chozen-ji’s Annual Zen Art Show & Sale

This year's Annual Zen Art Show & Sale will take place Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6.

This year's art show will reflect on Chozen-ji's 50-year Anniversary and will feature historical photos alongside artworks made at the Dojo over the years. It will also include for sale recently made ceramics fired in the wood-burning ceramics kiln, calligraphy, books, omamori, and several limited edition wooden shikishi frames.

After the success of last year's art show, we will again be asking attendees to make reservations to limit the crowds and make parking easier. A smaller number of items will also be available for sale online.

Zen & Politics 3.0

The June Zen & Politics Talk Story with US Representative Kai Kahele.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it challenging to do a repeat of the successful 2019 Zen & Politics program, which resulted in a successful run for Hawaii State House and several other program participants' successful career moves into public leadership.

So, instead, we brought the past Zen & Politics cohort and potential future participants together in talk story sessions with the 2022 Hawaii gubernatorial candidates. Guests have so far included Former First Lady and business leader Vicky Cayetano in May and with sitting US Congressman Kai Kahele in June.
